MBABANE:Sibongile Mazibuko, the President of the Ngwane National Liberatory Congress(NNLC) says it’s unconstitutional for the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development to hold local government elections outside the legal framework of the Elections and Boundaries Commission(EBC).
Speaking to this Swaziland News on Tuesday, the NNLC President who is a resident of Mbabane said the reported R12million election tender awarded to Slomoes Corporation was another way of stealing money with an intention to manipulate the local government elections.
The NNLC President maintained that the Constitution empowers the EBC as the legitimate institution to oversee elections in the country.
“It’s clear that the intention here is to manipulate the election, establish a syndicate that will grab properties from poor citizens who are struggling to pay rates,”said the NNLC President.
When this journalist tried to contact Principal Secretary(PS)Clifford Mamba, his phone rang unanswered, other attempts to reach him proved unsuccessful at the time of compiling this report.
The issue of the controversial R12 million elections tender was discussed in Parliament and the Times of Eswatini previously reported that other companies who offered to conduct the elections and charge R800,000.00 and R1.2million were ignored by the PS.
