MBABANE: “The more Zwemart gives me publicity, the King will recognize and appoint me into a political position, buka nyalo asengikhombise lucingo lwami, sengishayelwa nabo-DPM Themba Masuku."
These were the sentiments of former political activist Mzwakhe Myeni when speaking to one of his friends, who then leaked the information to the Swaziland News on Thursday.
Myeni was on the Channel S People and Places program on Thursday evening and before the program, he sent a message to editor Zweli Martin Dlamini and appealed to him to watch the program.
During the program, Myeni promised to reveal all secrets about the struggle for democracy.
It is alleged that he used to record political meetings and save the data on his cellphone.
“Watch Channel Yemaswati today, Kushubile mfo,"said the former political activist.
Deputy Prime Minister Themba Masuku had not responded at the time of compiling this report.
Reached for comments, editor Zweli Martin Dlamini said Mzwakhe Myeni deserves more publicity these days so that he can expose his thinking capacity.
"The independent media must give him the attention he is seeking so that he can talk, talk, and talk and end up losing relevance. If he gets appointed by the King, that would be a great benefit for the Nation because he will record high-profile meetings and send the information to us as journalists.Mzwakhe is loyal where there’s a potential for money,he can surrender the King’s ‘head’ to ‘enemies’ of the Monarchy without any problem. The mere fact that he revealed that he was speaking to the Deputy Prime Minister(DPM) is an indication that one day he will disclose the contents of the conversation between him and Themba Masuku,”said the editor.
The editor said journalists are well-trained to handle a person who likes publicity and warned that, towards the elections, Mzwakhe might not be featured prominently in the media because he would have lost relevance and be regarded as ‘Major V’ considering the speed and his desire for publicity.
“Journalists scramble for new stories, and we are driven by public interest, soon the public will get tired of Mzwakhe’s stories. We work with stories everyday and know how to handle characters like Mzwakhe who are a threat to media freedom,”said the editor.
