MBABANE: Wonder Gama, a well-known Mbabane mechanic was,on Monday evening,allegedly sprayed with petrol on the face and set-alight by Mswati’s police merely for traveling at night.
Speaking to this Swaziland News,Gama said the police stopped him at the traffic lights next to Mbabane Engene filing station and questioned him why he was traveling at night.
“It was a brief questioning and soon thereafter, they sprayed my face with petrol. When they sprayed the petrol,I thought maybe they just wanted me to feel the pain of the petrol on the face,however, another officer threw a burning tissue on my face and they disappeared,” he said.
A questionnaire was sent to Police Spokesperson Superintendent Phindile Vilakati,however, she had not responded at the time of compiling this report.
After the incident,Wonder Gama is said to have tried to roll on the ground trying to put-off the fire on his face.
The mechanic then tried to drive to Msunduza and those who saw his condition allegedly ran away thinking they were seeing a ghost.
But one brave resident came closer and asked him what happened.
The mechanic was then rushed to hospital in a critical condition,lucky,he is recovering from the injuries.
