NKILONGO: Sanele Sihlongonyane,a member of the Finance Committee within the Swaziland Democratic Parliament (SWADEPA), says it is very hard for rich people who joined politics to fight eradicate of poverty.

Speaking at Lusabeni uMphakatsi under Nkilongo Inkhundla on Sunday during the Elections and Boundaries Commission's (EBC) civic voter education, the political activist said even though the EBC claims even a poor person can be elected to parliament, parliamentary elections in eSwatini are normally won by rich people who claim they are going to parliament to represent and protect the interests of the poor.

"Then you ask yourself: Ungambeka yini kati kutsi abuke inhlalakahle yeligudvwane," said the political activist.

The SWADEPA senior member said rich people survive by oppressing the poor, just like a cat that survives by hunting mice.

“Once a cat rises to power, it will pass a law that seeks to ban mice from using holes to hide or as a form of shelter so that it could be easy to catch those mice. The same applies to rich people who are in power; they pass laws that oppress the poor," he said.
