MBABANE: Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni has refused to sign the controversial anti-LGTBQ Bill into law amid threats of sanctions from the west, Aljazeera has reported.
Uganda was seeking to impose a death penalty on Gays and Lesbians, the Bill was recently passed by Parliament and received international condemnation.
The United States has warned of economic consequences if the legislation is enacted. A group of United Nations experts has described the bill, if enacted, as “an egregious violation of human rights”.Amnesty International in a statement earlier on Thursday had urged Museveni to veto what the group described as a “draconian and overly broad” bill.
