SIKHUPHE: King Mswati,an absolute Monarch left the country on Tuesday afternoon to attend the Transform Africa Summit to be held at the Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe on Wednesday.
But the visit has been widely criticized by pro-democracy groups in Zimbabwe,the King stands accused of killing dozens of civilians merely for demanding democratic reforms.
In a public statement released on Tuesday and sent to this Swaziland News,Obert Masaraure,the Spokesperson of the Crisis in Zimbabwe Coalition said by welcoming an absolute Monarch known for repressive tactics,President Emmerson Mnangagwa was being complicit in the continued violence and oppression in Eswatini.
“As leaders of the Southern African region,they have a responsibility to uphold democratic values and human rights for all citizens.It is sad to note that Zimbabwe and Eswatini have been identified as countries of specific concern due to serious human rights abuses.We continue to urge SADC leaders to take concrete steps to improve the situation and to uphold democratic values and fundamental human rights for all citizens in the region,” reads the statement in part.
The King who was accompanied by Queen LaMatsebula is expected to proceed to Harare and Bulawayo for a State visit, he will then officially open the Zimbabwe 2023 Trade Fair.
King Mswati left the country on Tuesday.
