MBABANE: The Public Sector Associations (PSAs) have expressed their disappointment towards government for failing to prioritise the safety of health workers as they fight COVID-19.
The PSA leaders minced no words during the Joint Negotiation Forum (JNF) when they met the Government Negotiating Team (GNT) saying after being tested, results of health workers took a long-time to return. They observed that those who are tested are immediately put on fourteen (14) days quarantine thus reducing available staff to take care of patients in the health centers.
“Hospitals will not be able to function well as more health workers get infected as they take care of the patients. This is because they get exposed due to lack of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). Emaswati and government should brace themselves for the closure of some hospital departments because more nurses will be admitted at Lubombo Referral Hospital and some health care workers will be in self quarantine” said Bheki Mamba President of Swaziland Democratic Nurse’s Union (SWADNU).
Lizzie Nkosi, the Minister of Health recently confirmed in a press statement that more health workers were testing positive to the COVID-19.
