MBABANE: The People’s United Democratic Movement (PUDEMO) has presented its compliments to the Parliament of the United States of America.
In a public statement sent to this Swaziland News on Tuesday evening, the political organization said it noted with distinguished appreciation the recent bipartisan Senate Resolution 174 sponsored by the United States’ Senators Chris Coons, Cory Booker, Jim Risch, and Tim Scott condemning the atrocious human rights record of the government of eSwatini led by King Mswati III.
“PUDEMO fully affirms and aligns with the contents of the resolution in its entirety and applauds the senators for standing with the oppressed people of eSwatini. The initiation of this resolution in the United States Congress marks an important and watershed moment in the history of the Swazi struggle for change and democracy since 1973.
PUDEMO further urges the United States Senate to speedily pass this seminal and historic resolution with the view of holding King Mswati and his government accountable for the assassination of Thulani R. Maseko, the brutal massacre of over 100 civilians in June-July 2021, the on-going extra-judicial executions in the country, and the torture as well as inhuman and degrading treatment that state security forces working together with King Mswati’s hired mercenaries continue to mete on innocent citizens. On that regard, PUDEMO calls for King Mswati to be held accountable for the June-July 2021 Massacre that resulted in the state sponsored killings of over one hundred emaSwati. The blood of these citizens is crying out for justice and PUDEMO calls for justice to be accordingly served,”reads the statement in part.
