MBABANE:Bhekithemba Makhubu, the highly regarded editor of the Nation Magazine says, the current government is dominated by individuals who know nothing about politics and this affects the work of journalists in informing and educating the masses.
Speaking to this Swaziland News on Wednesday during the Press Freedom Day celebration held here at Emafini Lodge in Mbabane, the veteran editor said during their days as young journalists, they were capacitated with information merely by engaging or interviewing politicians who fully understand politics.
“What is more concerning to me with the current generation of journalists is that when we arrived in the media,we found respectable individuals who were well-versed with politics but now, those politicians are no more. You will recall that the country was ‘fresh’ from gaining independence and these were the politicians of the 1960s and we learned a lot from them. But now, the current politicians know nothing about politics and this affects the work of journalists,” said the Nation Magazine editor.
