MBABANE:Sibusiso Nhlabatsi, a highly regarded human rights lawyer says the targeted sanctions proposed by United States(US) Senator Christopher Coons will ground the lives of those violating human rights in eSwatini.
Speaking to this Swaziland News, Nhlabatsi who worked closely with assassinated lawyer Thulani Maseko said should the US Parliament approved the sanctions, possibilities are high that the European Union(EU) might do the same.
“You will note that the European Union(EU)and the US are allies and if the targeted sanctions resolution is approved by the US Parliament, there are high possibilities that the EU might do the same,” said the human rights lawyer.
US Senator Christopher Coons tabled resolution 174 in the United States Parliament condemning the ongoing human rights violations in eSwatini and demanding justice for assassinated lawyer Thulani Maseko.
The resolution is also proposing sanctions against individuals who violate human rights in eSwatini.
