MBABANE: A luxury presidential plane which Mexico had been trying to offload for more than four years has finally arrived in its new home - Tajikistan, the British Broadcasting Corporation(BBC)reported on Monday.
“President López Obrador made the sale of the Boeing 787 Dreamliner one of his campaign promises, calling it a symbol of previous governments’ excesses.
But the specially-outfitted plane proved hard to shift and an attempt to raffle it off failed. It was finally sold to the Tajik government for $92m (£73.7m).The jet took off from California, where it had been in storage, and arrived in the Tajik capital, Dushanbe, early on Monday,”reads the BBC report.
Reached for comments,Mandla Hlatswako, the Chairperson of Letfu Sonkhe Institute for Strategic Thinking and Development said the Mexico President had set a good example that should be followed by the authorities in eSwatini.
“Actually, the Mexico President has set a very good example for leaders who care about their people. It is important that we use national resources with the interest of the people, and part of it is to ensure that assets that are not contributing anything, you convert them to cash to help the society. So, that was a powerful decision and hopeful the King will learn that it would help the country to get the million to assist in supporting the buying of drugs or support children with school fees and University students,” said the Letfu Sonkhe Chairperson.
