“Following a meeting of even date between the Vice Chancellor and the Management Team, on one hand, and the police from the Headquarters, Regional Quarters and the three police stations servicing Luyengo, Kwaluseni and Mbabane Campuses, the National Commissioner Of Police, took a decision to deploy police on each of the Campuses to help the University achieve its mandate." reads the memo in part.

"Yes the memo is authentic. However,I would request that you write your article in  a responsible manner. In short, I would be grateful if this matter would be presented to the news readers without sensationalizing it," said Dr Selebona Simelane.

Reached for a comment, Mancoba Kitso Motsa the Deputy Secretary General of the Swaziland National Union of Students (SNUS) said the deployment of the police in each of the three Campuses is a tactic to intimidate the students for standing up for their academic rights.

“The deployment of police is a tactic to intimidate the students from standing up for their academic right. They do not want the students to expose the high level of corruption that is within the University. It is a challenge for us to learn and at the same time have the police next to the Campuses. The police have committed unspeakable atrocities to us students," said the Union's Deputy Secretary General.

The University of Eswatini recently opened after a two month closure amid financial challenges.
