EZULWINI:Prime Minister Cleopas Sipho Dlamini says eSwatini is already affected by climate-change.

Speaking on Monday during the ongoing Green Indaba held at the Happy Valley Hotel, the PM said climate was destroying infrastructure and negatively affecting food production.

“The country and the sub-region are already experiencing unprecedented climate conditions, which are having a negative impact on the economy and the livelihoods of emaSwati. Our infrastructure has been destroyed, our food production systems negatively affected, and we are seeing a return of diseases which we thought were behind us.We also need to mobilise the required resources from external and internal resources, public and private. If our economy is to thrive, and we are to leave our children with a habitable planet, we need to invest in a green economy,” said the PM as quoted by Government online platforms.

On another note,Rose Ssebatindira, the United Nations Development Programme(UNDP) Resident Representative said realizing a low-carbon transition, and ensuring that it was just and inclusive, will require reshaping economic systems, policies, financial instruments and adoption of innovative technologies and practices.

”Capitalising on green investment opportunities, and mobilising green financing, are essential to realising both the 2030 Agenda and the Paris Agreement,” she said.
