Democratically, it is not a crime to hold a different view and therefore, one would suggest that police officers must be personally held accountable for the ongoing State killings.
Bonginkosi IB Dlamini, the Convenor of the United Eswatini Diaspora(UED) suggested that any police officer who shoots and kill someone’s child must have his/her child killed as well.
But I am of the view that even though the Nation is grieving amid the ongoing State killings, it’s important to guard against exceeding the limit of self-defense that is justifiable in criminal law.
A child is not a threat to anyone and all of us have a responsibility to protect children even the children of our enemies.
The greatest self-defense mechanism that could, perhaps,be justifiable in international law is to hold the police officers and soldiers who kill civilians accountable.
I am therefore, appealing to IB Dlamini and all underground forces who are preparing to advance the struggle for democracy not to change the formula, police must be personally held accountable not their children.
