Labour Minister Phila Buthelezi receives investigation report on Government interference into trade unions peaceful protests.

MBABANE: Phila Buthelezi, the Minister of  Labour and Social Security received a report subsequent to an investigation into Government and security institutions alleged interference on trade unions activities.

According to eSwatini Government online platforms, the the Committee that was tasked with the investigation, was headed by Acting High Court Judge Justice David Khumalo.

It was appointed by Government in terms of the decision of the ILO Committee on Freedom of Association (CFA) for the appointment of an independent investigation into these allegations, through a communication from the International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC) dated 20 September 2018.

“In keeping with the ideals of transparency and accountability, especially because this investigation process was carried out in public, Government has decided to make the delivery of the Report by the Investigation Committee to be conducted publicly, sive sitokwati kutsi sowphelile lomsebenti lo.Since the Report has not yet been submitted to the ILO, we will not delve into its merits. It will be made public once the ILO has had sight of the Report and examined its contents,” said the Minister.
