MBABANE:Eswatini Government has released a statement attacking the Southern African Development Community(SADC)Electoral Advisory Council Mission to eSwatini ahead of the Tinkhundla undemocratic elections.

This comes after SADC commissioned a Council to inspect if the political environment in eSwatini was conducive for peaceful, free and fair democratic elections.

“Following concerns expressed by various quarters on our national structures in respect to the SADC Electoral Advisory Council mission to Eswatini, are are currently inspecting the environment of the country to hold peaceful elections, Government wishes to set the record straight in terms of the programme and activities of the mission. The mission was not invited by the Government of Eswatini. The programme,in terms of the organisation and individuals that the SADC Electoral Advisory Council is meeting in the country remains unknown to Government. Any insinuation that Government was involved in the drawing up of the SADC Mission programme is incorrect and tantamount to misleading the Nation,”reads a statement released by Government Spokesperson Alpheous Nxumalo on Friday.

The statement comes less than fourty-eight(48) hours after the eSwatini Government attacked the United States(US).

The Government claimed the US was interfering in the country’s internal affairs after the condemnation of the guilty verdicts against incarcerated pro-democracy MPs Mduduzi Bacede Mabuza and Mthandeni Dube, the MPs were convicted on terrorism charges merely for demanding democratic reforms inside Parliament.
