MBABANE: A Parliament motion moved by Mduduzi Magawugawu Simelane, the then Siphofaneni Member of Parliament(MP) existed only on paper, the reality on the ground suggests that Finance Minister Neal Rijikernberg subsequently forced ‘Dubai’ car dealers out of eSwatini.
A visit on Saturday by this Swaziland News here at the densely populated Matsapha industrial site,uncovered that most import car dealers have left the country.
A questionnaire was sent to the Finance Minister,however, he had not responded at the time of compiling this report.
Reached for comments,Mduduzi Magawugawu Simelane, the former Siphofaneni MP who moved the Parliament motion promised to respond later regarding the issue of the ‘Dubai’ cars.
“I think I will have space for response tomorrow,” said the former MP.
Speaking to this Swaziland News on Saturday ,Sikelela Dlamini, the Secretary General(SG) of the MultiStakeholder Forum(MSF)said, the issue of the ‘Dubai’ cars was one of the most perfect examples that eSwatini does not have a Parliament that safeguards the interests of the people.
“The issue of the Dubai cars is one of the perfect examples that eSwatini does not have a Parliament, this institution is merely paraded just to convince the world that there are democratic structures in the country when in actually fact,that is not the case. Petitions were delivered on this issue and Parliament was successfully lobbied but, at the end, the Minister ‘forced’ the car dealers out of the country. Now emaSwati are struggling to afford cars,” said the MSF Secretary General.
