MBABANE:Marwick Khumalo, the Lobamba Lomdzala Member of Parliament(MP) has urged the House of Assembly and the Executive to prepare and approve a R5billion loan to maintain all public roads in the country.
Speaking in Parliament on Thursday, the MP said heavy rains influenced by climate-change, destroyed many roads in the country.
“We can’t leave and expect that the next Parliament will solve this, the next Parliament will start working next year after being officially opened by the King. If we fail to do it now, as the Minister suggests that maintaining the roads might cost R5billion,I can assure you, when we come back, the costs would be around R8billion. So, Mr Speaker, it’s not in the interest of the public for us to ignore this matter. I was expecting the Public Works Minister to emphasize, the Finance Minister suggested two weeks and I thought the Honorable Finance Minister will confirm that we can conclude this in two weeks. Even if we can arrive here at 7pm so we can discuss and approve the Loan Bill, we are ready just for the sake of our national roads,” said the Lobamba Lomdzala MP.
The MP further applauded Ndzingeni MP Lutfo Dlamini for raising the issue of the roads in Parliament.
