MBABANE: Mbabane Municipality will soon advertise a post, seeking to hire a new Chief Executive Officer(CEO), Cabinet sources told this Swaziland News on Monday.
This comes after this publication published a story where it was alleged that CEO Gideon Mhlongo has been making attempts to meet the King after the expiry of his contract.
“I have been mandated to inform you that yes, Mhlongo is going and the post will soon be advertised. It’s true that attempts were made to meet the King,” said one of the Cabinet sources who sent a message to this journalist.
A questionnaire was sent to Gideon Mhlongo on Saturday, however,he had not responded at the time of compiling this report.
Mhlongo, a close ally of retired Urban Development Principal Secretary(PS) Clifford Mamba was awarded an unlawful five(5) year contract by the then Minister Phiwayinkhosi Mabuza.
Responding to a questionnaire from this Swaziland News on Saturday evening, King’s Spokesperson Percy Simelane said the King was not in any way responsible for renewing contracts for Manicipalities Chief Executive Officers(CEOs).
“Renewals of contracts for municipality CEOs rests with the Minister for Housing and Urban Development after consultation with the relevant advisory team,” sais the King’s Spokesperson.
