HLATHIKHULU: Nokuthula Maseko, a traffic police officer based at the Hlathikhulu Police Station has been killed by a speeding car while on duty in a roadblock.
Eswatini police officers have adopted a tendency of staging roadblocks in ‘secluded’ places, camping for unsuspecting motorists,
thus placing their lives and those of motorists in serious danger.
The police officer, a resident of Luyengo-Mlandvo community died on Saturday, his sister-in law Nomfundo Bulunga confirmed to this journalist who went ‘undercover’ on Sunday evening, as the matter was kept a top secret by the police authorities.
“She died in a car accident while on duty, the accident happened yesterday(Saturday)”, said the deceased sister in-law when speaking to this journalist who pretended to be a relative when investigating the matter.
But after this journalist formally introduced himself, Nomfundo Bulunga terminated the conversation, fortunately, the information had been verified to be true.
A questionnaire was sent to Police Spokesperson Superintendent Phindile Vilakati, however, she had not responded at the time of compiling this report.
It is alleged that the police officer was stopping and searching vehicles with other officers but unfortunately, she was killed by the speeding car.
