Tribute to ex-Robison Bertram partner senior lawyer Knox Mshumayeli Nxumalo.

Saturday, 8th July, 2023

Knox Mshumayeli Nxumalo joined Robinson Bertram Legal Practice in 1980.

He was to go on and have a stellar career where he served with distinction as the firms senior partner until his retirement in October 2016. He then  remained a consultant for several years until he decided to open his legal consultancy MSHU CONSULTANCY.

His attributes were recognized and rewarded through appointments to be Chairman of various statutory boards and private companies-most notably being the first Liswati to be Chairman of Standard Bank. He was at the helm at KOBWA when Maguga Dam  was established.

Knox as he was affably called by both young and old was a remarkable person . His greatness was anchored in his love for Christ - it moulded his integrity, his love of excellence, commitment to serving others, unparalleled love and dedication to  his beloved wife and family. He was an example worthy of being emulated.

He was a man of  integrity, honour, and honesty amongst other remarkable qualities.Consummate  professional is the adjective that best describes him.

Knox was not perfect.

He would be the first to tell you so.He was in process as we all are.His achievements at Robinson Bertram are truly exceptional. I had the honour of enumerating some of them on the occasion of his retirement dinner in October 2016. He was the firm’s senior partner from 1994 (taking over from his mentor Guy Bertram) until his retirement.

In that time he pioneered the acquisition of our current office building Ingcongwane,  mentored many young attorneys some of whom have risen to highest echelons of judicial service to become Judges of the Superior Courts.Though humble he had great presence and influence.

Always availing himself to provide counsel on both professional and personal issues.I had the honour of being guided and mentored by him from when I joined Robinson Bertram in January 1992. It was his work ethic that distinguished him, edified by his dedication to legal scholarship and above all his unyielding commitment to Christ that had the greatest influence on me.He was truly  a legal luminary.

To his beloved wife Matshidiso, his children, grandchildren and all whose lives he touched, on behalf of Robinson Bertram Legal Practice, I would like to offer our sincere and heartfelt condolences.

Hamba Kahle Nxumayo, wena wase Gudu.

We will travel with your mortal remains from esiyungwini to your final resting place knowing that if we follow your footsteps we will  see you on that glorious morning!
