TIMPHISINI: Jenifer DuPont, the former vibrant Timphisini Member of Parliament(MP) was nominated by popular demand last weekend, hundreds of women rallied behind her shortly after she accepted the nomination.

DuPont, a nurse by profession, previously served from 2008-2013 as a legislator. She was then sent into the political wilderness by Chief Prince Magudvulela, who de-campaigned her during a community meeting in 2013.

Prince Magudvulela allegedly told voters that DuPont was a widow and therefore, in terms of Swazi Law and Custom, she must not be voted to Parliament.

But now, it seems the voters particularly women, are determined to vote her back to Parliament.

On another note, King Mswati and women rights groups urged voters to consider voting for women to political positions as well, to balance gender in decision making institutions.
