United Nations(UN) to assist eSwatini achieve socially and environmental friendly towns,Africa Regional Director Oumar Sylla assures Prime Minister.

MBABANE: The United Nations(UN) will assist the Kingdom of eSwatini in developing policies that seek to ensure socially and environmental friendly sustainable towns,UN Eswatini has disclosed through a press statement sent to this Swaziland News on Monday afternoon.

This comes subsequent to a meeting between Prime Minister Cleopas Dlamini and Oumar Sylla, the Africa Regional Director for the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat), the UN Director is in the country on a three(3)-day official visit.

Sylla was introduced to the PM by George Wachira, the UN Eswatini Resident Coordinator and the meeting held the Cabinet Offices was also attended by, among others, Prince Simelane, the Minister of Housing and Urban Development.

“We want to be part of the UN system in Eswatini so that we can be able to support the Government to advance this agenda,” said the Africa Regional Director for the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) as quoted in the press statement sent to this publication.

On another note, George Wachira, the UN Eswatini Resident Coordinator observed that the presence of UN-Habitat in Eswatini will have a significant impact on the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals(SDGs) with less than seven(7)years remaining. 

“Cities across the world are now charting their performance on the achievement of SDGs. Cities host 55 per cent of the world’s population and implementing the SDGs in cities can have a positive economic, social and environmental impacts to improve the quality of life of all people,” said the UN Resident Coordinator.
