MBABANE: Phil Mnisi, the Governor of the Central Bank of Eswatini(CBC) has been holding a ‘conflict of interest’ position as Eswatini Bank Board Chairperson for over a year now.
An undeclared conflict of interest is defined as corruption, it normally occurs when a person holds positions with the other, having a potential to compromise his/her judgment or decisions for personal gain and/or for the benefit of those linked to his network.
The Central Bank is a financial institution that regulates banks in the country, it remains unclear why Mnisi failed to resign as Eswatini Bank Board Chairperson, after being appointed by the King as the Central Bank Governor.
Reached for comments, the Governor asked to be contacted later so he can respond.
“Can we talk tomorrow, it’s late now”, said the Governor.
But Finance Minister Minister Neal Rijkenberg corrected the conflict of interest on Monday, when he announced the appointment of Dumsani Mahlinza as the new Eswatini Bank Board Chairperson.
