MBABANE:Mthobisi Ntjangase, the Deputy Secretary General of the Youth League of the People's United Democratic Movement (PUDEMO), the Swaziland Youth Congress (SWAYOCO) says, eSwatini continues to lose graduates who migrate to other countries amid scarcity of jobs.
Eswatini has about 70% of the population living below the poverty line, the unemployment rate currently stands at 58.2 percent.
Ntjangase was responding to a questionnaire from this Swaziland News amid reports suggesting that, more graduates were securing jobs abroad due to the high unemployment rate in eSwatini.
"Young people cannot be denied the opportunity to seek for employment opportunities abroad where their skills will be valued. It is unfortunate that the country continues to lose brilliant, talented and creative minds because of a system that neglects the potential embedded in the youth. Young people have been denied their right and responsibility to contribute to the socio-economic development of the country regardless of the vast skills they possess," said the PUDEMO Youth League Deputy Secretary General.
A questionnaire was sent to the Minister of Education and Training Lady-Howard Mabuza, however, she had not responded at the time of compiling this report.
According to the Kingdom of eSwatini 2023 Article IV of the Consultation - Press release, unemployment rate among the youth is 58.2%.
