MBABANE: King Mswati has told the Southern African Development Community(SADC) that emaSwati who registered to vote, demonstrated love for the current eSwatini Tinkhundla system of governance.
As a result, the King told Heads of State that the situation was normal in eSwatini as emaSwati were voting peacefully.
“The Kingdom of Eswatini is in the middle of our electoral cycle. A voter registration exercise was conducted which returned a total number of over 584 000 registrations against a possible total figure of 650 000.This represents 90% of eligible voters, a resounding success; a ringing endorsement of the general population’s support for the system of Government as has been repeatedly endorsed by emaSwati,” said the King.
Some of the voters were urged by Mduduzi Magawugawu Simelane, the President of the Swaziland Liberation Movement(SWALIMO) to participate in the elections, despite a warning from the MultiStakeholder Forum(MSF) that, doing so, will give the King justification with the international community that, everything was normal in the country.
Magawugawu later withdraw from the MSF, a coalition of eSwatini pro-democracy groups in support of the Tinkhundla elections.
