LOBAMBA LOMDZALA: Mkhuleko Magongo, the Director of Creative Designs and aspiring Lobamba Lomdzala Member of Parliament(MP), allegedly ‘killed’ Manuel Antonio Muianga, a Mozambican national in an accident ahead of the Primary Elections elections, and subsequently bribed Sigodvweni traffic police officers to sabotage the case.
In terms of traffic and or criminal laws, the businessman was supposed to be arrested and charged with culpable homicide, however, Magongo allegedly used his financial muscle to negotiate with the traffic police not to arrest him, as doing so, might destroy his reputation in the midst of the elections.
An independent investigation conducted by this Swaziland News uncovered that, the accident occurred on the 28th July 2023 shortly after nominations, the Mozambican subsequently died on the 29th July 2023 at the Raleigh Fitkin Memorial (RFM) Hospital.
A questionnaire was sent to Superintendent Phindile Vilakati, the Police Spokesperson, however, she had not responded at the time of compiling this report.
It is alleged that, after ‘killing’ the Mozambican national, the businessman subsequently refused to contribute towards funeral costs despite consistent requests from the family.
Reached for comments, businessman Mkhuleko Magongo confirmed the accident but clarified that, the matter was being handled by the Sigodvweni(Matsapha) Police officers.
“That matter is being handled by the police, I am also receiving appropriate advice from police officers who are close to me”, said the businessman.
But after this publication contacted the businessman for a comment, it is alleged that he then contacted the relatives of the deceased and requested a meeting.
As a result, when this Swaziland News reached one of the relatives for a comment, he pleaded with this journalist to put the story on hold, pending the meeting.
“Nkhosi why don't you wait for me to come back to Eswatini ngibone lo Mkhuleko kucala because utse ufuna sibonane then if angakhulumi lokuvakalako we will start the story from there”, said the relative identified as Pitso when asked to comment about the matter.
The relative who was in Mozambique for the funeral at the Matola Cemetery said, the businessman asked for a meeting at Sigodvweni Police Station.
”I am pleading with you to put the the story on hold pending our meeting, he has just called me and asked if I know you. He said, you called and questioned him about the accident”, said the relative.
But, the request by Manuel Antonio Muianga’s relative to put the story on hold, pending the meeting with the police was not successful as for almost two weeks, this journalist has been investigating the matter and as a result, the story was due for publication.
