LUBULINI: Timothy Myeni, the former Nkilongo Member of Parliament(MP) was not only denied his right to be voted into Parliament by the Elections and Boundaries Commission(EBC) but, the police subsequently blocked him from voting at Lubulini where his name appeared on the voters roll.
A questionnaire was sent to Superintendent Phindile Vilakati, the Police Spokesperson, however, she had not responded at the time of compiling this report.
Reached for comments by this Swaziland News, the former MP confirmed that, he was blocked from voting at Lubulini and this, was after he went to Lusabeni-Nkhanini uMphakatsi on Saturday with an intention to vote.
The former MP said, upon arrival Lusabeni, he realized that his name was not appearing there as per the previous sentiments of the Commission.
Prince Mhlabuhlangene, the Chairman of the Elections Commission had written a letter to Myeni informing him that, he was eligible to vote at Nkhanini-Lusabeni under Nkilongo Inkhundla.
But, despite the documented sentiments of the Chairman, Myeni realized that the Commission did not ‘transfer’ his name to appear under Nkilongo Constituency.
“It’s true, I have been blocked from voting at Lubulini. I first went to Lusabeni-Nkhanini uMphakatsi to vote after the EBC told me that I was eligible to vote there. But upon arrival, I was told that my name appears at Lubulini. When I arrived at Lubulini, I was told that I cannot vote. Kwabuya emaphoyisa ngavinjwa”, said the former MP.
Efforts to seek a comment from Mbonisi Bhembe, the Elections Commission Spokesperson proved unsuccessful as his phone unanswered. A questionnaire was then sent, however, he had not responded at the time of compiling this report.
Reached for comments, Penuel Malinga,the Secretary General of the People’s United Democratic Movement(PUDEMO) said, as an organization, they have mentioned consistently that, the elections were not based on the law or democratic principles but, to elect individuals who support King Mswati.
“Timothy has been critical on issues of democracy, that’s why they don’t want him in Parliament. As PUDEMO, we have been mentioning that these elections are not democratic”, said the PUDEMO Secretary General.
