MBABANE: Charity Simelane, the Secretary General of the Law Society of Swaziland(LSS) says, as the legal fraternity, they welcome the establishment of the Legal Aid launched by Justice Minister Pholile Shakantu on Wednesday.
Responding to this Swaziland News on Thursday afternoon when asked to share a comment, the Secretary General said, the Legal Aid will assist the less-privileged to access justice.
“The law society acknowledges that access to justice is a human right.In light of the never-ending pursuit of access to justice for those members of the public who are less previlieged, we believe that we as Attorneys, have a duty to support the right to access to Justice like all other constitutional objectives. The Legal Aid will assist indigent members of society access justice justice. We believe and trust that,the means test will be strictly applied in such cases and that Legal Aid will only benefit individuals who ordinarily have no means to approach an attorney and assist them in accessing justice”, said the Law Society of Swaziland(LSS) Secretary General.
Pholile Dlamini-Shakantu, the Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs launched the Legal Aid on Wednesday, the United Nations Development Program(UNDP) provided technical support in establishing the facility to enhance access to justice for the poor and marginalised.
