MBABANE: Kwasi Adu-Amankwah, the Secretary General (SG) of the Regional Organization of the International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC-Africa) has, on behalf of the trade union organization, released a statement, calling on the eSwatini Government to reinstate the Swaziland National Association of Teachers (SNAT) President Mbongwa Ernest Dlamini to his teaching job and cessation violent suppression of peaceful workers petition in Eswatini.
The SNAT President has been dismissed by the royal controlled Teaching Service Commission (TSC) merely for representing teachers, Dlamini was charged with absenteeism and subsequently found guilty without a disciplinary hearing.
“ITUC-Africa is a Pan African Trade union organization representing workers under their national umbrella, which include the Trade Union Congress of Swaziland (TUCOSWA) in Eswatini. TUCOSWA has informed us of the summary dismissal of Comrade Mbongwa Dlamini, President of the Swaziland National Association of Teachers (SNAT) by the Ministry of Education. Mr. Dlamini is a worker leader/representative and should enjoy protection from arbitrary action, discrimination and harassment in the course of the discharge of his duties to his members as provided for in extant continental and International instruments. ITUC-Africa therfore calls for the unconditional reinstatement of Mr Mbongwa Dlamini and for him to be adequately compensated to mitigate the economic loses he has suffered. We also urge your Ministry to desist from further harassment and intimidation of Mbongwa Dlamini as well as other trade union leaders and members,” reads the statement in part released by the ITUC-Africa Secretary General.
