ATUSWA Secretary General: Prime Minister is lying on laid-off workers’ payments

Saturday, 11th July, 2020

MBABANE: Wander Mkhonza, the Secretary General (SG) of the Amalgamated Trade Union of Swaziland (ATUSWA) accuses Prime Minister (PM), Ambrose Mandvulo Dlamini of lying to the Nation regarding the payment of laid-off workers.

This comes after the PM has announced during a press conference that the first batch of COVID-19 payment for laid-off workers begins on Friday with 1949 recipients.

“Subsequently, payments will be made every Friday until the current figure of the laid-off employees is exhausted” the PM said.

However, Mkhonza when speaking to this Swaziland News on Friday condemned the sentiments of the Prime Minister describing such as outright lies.

“This is very unfortunate and uncalled for. The PM is wrong to give false hope to the laid-off workers who have not been paid for the past three months. It would have been proper if the PM liaised with the committee working on same. We were hoping to receive the money from Eswatini National Provident Fund (ENPF) but until this very moment, the money is not yet transferred. We will not be able to pay workers today(Friday),” said Mkhonza.
