MBABANE: Sikhatsi Dlamini, the former Mbabane Mayor has resigned as a member of the of the Swaziland Liberation Movement(SWALIMO).
Speaking to this Swaziland News on Monday evening, the former Mayor said, he realized that democracy was not practiced within the political organization led by Mduduzi Magawugawu Simelane.
“I discovered that democratic principles were not adhered to within the organization, when we run an organization, we must adhere to democratic principles. I can not demand democracy from you Mlangeni while I’m failing to practice it”, said the former Mayor.
Reached for comments,Thantaza Silolo,the SWALIMO Spokesperson said, the organization never received a formal resignation from Dlamini but clarified that, he had complained that, associating himself with the organization will cost him on his intentions to secure a seat in Parliament.
“We never received his resignation and that we have maintained in all interviews by the media but we heard from other sources that he was complaining that he wants to participate in the elections and if the movement maintains that it is going to disrupt in Parliament that would cost him a seat in parliament. He wanted us to change tune and say angeke sente kube lukhuni kusebenta kwale-Phalamende as we had intended then ke wahamba waNkhosi”, said the SWALIMO Spokesperson.
Worth-noting, other high profile individuals who resigned citing same dictatorship tendencies by Magawugawu include former Ezulwini Mayor and businesswoman Busie Mayisela, ex-Ncandweni singer Mzwakhe Myeni, ex-Correctional Services Union Secretary General Mzwandile Dlamini, Gift Dlamini, the late Muzi Mmema and Dr Siphetfo Dlamini.
