Thursday, 16th July, 2020

MBABANE:Workers confirmed receiving their money as government starts the distribution of the E25million Eswatini National Provident Fund (ENPF) grants for laid-off workers.

Wander Mkhonza, the Secretary General of the Amalgamated Trade Union of Swaziland (ATUSWA) said the workers received their money on Monday adding that so far they haven’t received complaints from those who were not paid in the first batch.

“It’s true, they received their money on Monday and we haven’t received complaints workers who was not paid in the first batch” said the Secretary General.

This comes after the PM has announced during a press conference that the first batch of COVID-19 payment for laid-off workers begins on Friday with 1949 recipients.

“Subsequently, payments will be made every Friday until the current figure of the laid-off employees is exhausted” the PM said.

On Monday morning, this publication had reported that the union was complaining that the PM had promised the money will be paid on Friday, however, the matter was later sorted after the workers received it on Monday. In a statement sent to this Swaziland News, the Ministry of Labour and Social Security maintained that as per the sentiments of the Prime Minister, workers will be paid every Friday.
