United Nations(UN) Eswatini Resident Coordinator George Wachira warns as domestic violence cases escalate.

MBABANE: George Wachira, the United Nations(UN) Eswatini Resident Coordinator has warned against Gender Based Violence(GBV), as domestic violence and/or killing of women escalates in eSwatini.

In a public statement sent to this Swaziland News this week, the UN Resident Coordinator added a voice against GBV, he described the senseless killing of women as "gruesome” and further sent condolences to King Mswati's government.

“The United Nations Family in Eswatini is appalled by the acts of gruesome violence against women which have resulted in the loss of lives and horrendous injuries in the recent past on 28 October alone, five women were shot, with four dying on the spot, and one reported to be still fighting for her life in intensive care.The UN Family in Eswatini conveys its deepest condolences to His Majesty's Government and the families that have been affected by the unacceptable acts perpetrated by men.The UN condemns violence of all forms and continues to stand with the women and girls who suffer it, often at the hands of those they consider as loved ones," reads the statement in part released by the UN Resident Coordinator George Wachira.

On another note, King Mswati also added a voice against GBV when preaching during the End of Year Service at Lozitha Palace on Saturday, he encouraged men and women to live together in peace without violence and described the ongoing killing of women as an evil spirit that must be ‘rebuked’.

“God created a man to live in peace with a woman.He then created a woman to live in peace with a man, the ongoing domestic violence must come to an end,” said the King.

The warning from the Eswatini Head of State comes after the killing of six(6) women by their partners.
