Ex-Councillor takes on Housing PS, Minister over Mangwaneni demolitions

Monday, 24th August, 2020

MBABANE: Bongani Mkhatjwa, the former Matsapha Councillor blamed Clifford Mamba, the Principal Secretary in the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development for the on-going demolitions at Mangwaneni.

Speaking to this Swaziland News on Monday, the former Councillor said to the best of his knowledge, Town Councils cannot demolish homes without seeking approval from the Ministry, particularly the Principal Secretary and Minister Prince Simelane.

“Town Councils cannot demolish houses without an approval from the Ministry, all this is done as per the permission of the Ministry particularly, the PS. It’s very unfortunate that at the time when we are facing a crisis, people’s homes are being demolished. We love the political system and we were hoping that things will be better under the current government but it seems we’re wrong” said the former Councillor.

Efforts to reach Clifford Mamba, the Housing PS proved unsuccessful at the time of compiling this report.

Lucky Tsabedze, Mbabane Manicipality Public Relations Officer(PRO)’s mobile phone rang unanswered when this publication tried to contact him on Monday.

Wandile Dludlu, the Secretary of the People’s United Democratic Movement(PUDEMO) said it is part of the Tinkhundla system to treat eMaswati like foreigners in their on country. Speaking to this publication, Dludlu called upon all citizens to join various political parties and collectively fight the current government over the evictions and demolitions.

“Treating eMaswati like foreigners in their own land is part of the agenda of the Tinkhundla system. The solution here would be to advise eMaswati to join the different political parties and collectively fight this” said PUDEMO Secretary General.
