OPINION:Prime Minister’s Anti-Corruption task team a house plan on a piece of paper, without implementation by throwing the corrupt behind bars it will remain useless.

Monday, 12th February, 2024

In the construction industry language,Prime Minister(PM) Russell Mmiso Dlamini was merely presenting a house plan when introducing the Anti-Corruption Task Team during a press conference held at the Cabinet Offices on Monday.

A house plan is a drawing of your desired mansion that exist in your own world of imagination, pending implementation through hard work and dedication,it remains a dream in a piece of paper.

But it’s a step to the right direction to present a house plan and in the context of politics and public administration, the establishment of the Anti Corruption Task Team demonstrates commitment to accountability, however, to some of us with close twenty to (20) years experience as journalists, we have seen Prime Ministers establishing same as a political strategy to pool the wool in the eyes of the unsuspecting citizens.

It is possible that, in the room during the press conference,90% of the politicians including the police superiors “are on the payroll of SwaziPharm Director Kareem Ashraff.

The Head of Judiciary Chief Justice(CJ) Bheki Maphalala is an alleged close friend to Ashraff who stands accused of looting millions of public funds hence the fight against corruption cannot be achieved merely by appointing a Task Team lead by three(3) Heads of the certain institutions within the criminal justice system.

The corrupt are powerful and politically connected in this country, it cannot be easy to investigate and arrest them without a political will.

Acting Police Commissioner Lydia Dlamini,Director of Public Prosecutions(DPP) Lomvula Hlophe and Anti Corruption Commission(ACC) Acting Commissioner Maphevu Mkhatjwa cannot easily investigate corruption without support from the State, the corrupt are very dangerous and the evidence is what happened to former ACC Commissioner Dan Dlamini who was attacked by unknown people after authorizing investigations about powerful people.

But as a country, it would be encouraging to see powerful people who looted public funds behind bars but Chief Justice(CJ)

Bheki Maphalala might take bribes and release them.

This means, there are many systems within the judiciary that must be corrected before the arrests and this, include the removal of corrupt Chief Justice Bheki Maphalala.

This country cannot claim to be fighting corruption with Bheki Maphalala holding the position of Chief Justice or Head of the judiciary.

The Task Team might work but the Chief Justice will manipulate the law and release all the powerful suspects, Maphalala is loyal to money not the King or the Constitution.

As mentioned, the announcement of the Task Team is just a house plan on a piece of paper and without implementation, it will remain useless.

Most corrupt people like Ashraff steal the money and share it with King Mswati and Queen Ntombi Tfwala hence they automatically benefit from the King’s prosecution immunity.

We are yet to see if the King is serious about fighting corruption and throw his corrupt friends behind bars.
