MBABANE:Mduduzi Bacede Mabuza,the convicted eSwatini pro-democracy Member of Parliament(MP) says, “one Liswati” has the power to overrule Parliament decisions.
Eswatini is ruled by King Mswati as an absolute Monarch,political parties are banned from participating in elections and the King is above the law with powers to overturn Parliament decisions.
Addressing the court and/or Judge Mumcy Dlamini during the ongoing mitigation, the MP said, after being elected to Parliament he realized that even if MPs can agree on a certain issue through a resolution, the “One Liswati has the power to overrule Parliament” decisions.
“After being elected to Parliament by emaSwati, I discovered that even if all the elected emaSwati in Parliament could agree, there’s one LiSwati with the power to overrule Parliament”, said the convicted pro-democracy MP.
The MP was arrested in July 2021 together with MP Mthandeni Dube, they were subsequently convicted on politically motivated terrorism charges merely for demanding democracy and/or an elected Prime Minister(PM).
The order to arrest the MPs was allegedly issued by King Mswati, an absolute Monarch with Executive, Judicial and Legislative powers.
