Whenever we raise the issue of low salaries legitimated by Government Gazettes,we are told that these are minimum wages and employers can decide to pay more.
But the truth is;businesspeople are capitalists whose fundamental interest when venturing into business is to generate profits, it would therefore,be difficult to expect companies to voluntarily pay far above the Government Gazetted wages.
In this regard,it is the Government particularly Labour Minister Phila Buthelezi who must introduce competitive Gazettes that seek to improve the lives of workers.
Eswatini has about 70% of the population living below the poverty line and among these citizens, are employed individuals who earn low salaries rendering them unable to sustain themselves and their families.
