MBABANE:Colani Hlatswako,the One Billion Rising Eswatini Coordinator has applauded a decision by the French Parliament to approve a Bill seeking to enshrine abortion as a constitutional right.
Aljazeera reported on Monday that, the Bill was approved in an overwhelming 780-72 vote on Monday, and nearly the entire joint session stood in a long-standing ovation.
“Access to safe abortion is a human right issue which needs to be taken into consideration. Currently in Eswatini we are seeing survivors of rape not able to access safe abortion, end-up giving birth to babies that are rejected by both parents.We notice a number of feotuses that are being dumped, we are losing life when women attempt unsafe abortion measures. All this cost government a lot of money,it can only be avoided if there is access to safe abortion”, said the One Billion Rising Eswatini Coordinator.
