MBABANE:Dorcas Dlamini,the Principal Secretary(PS) in the Ministry of Natural Resources and Energy has announced fuel increase, a few hours after the Electricity Company increased electricity by 8.02%.
The Eswatini Electricity Company(EEC) that increased the electricity,is a Government parastatal under the same Ministry of Natural Resources.
“The Ministry of Natural Resources and Energy hereby informs the public that the prices of both Unleaded Petrol and Diesel 50 ppm S will increase by E1.10 while illuminating Paraffin will increase by 50 cents per litre. The new fuel prices shall come into effect at Midnight, Thursday 7th March 2024(effective Friday, 8th March 2024)”, the PS said through a press release.
As a result of the increase, Unleaded Petrol(ULP95) price will be increased by R1.10/litre from E20.50/litre to E21.60/ litre. The Diesel 50 ppm S will increase by E1.10/litre from E21.80 to E22.90 litre.The Illuminating Paraffin price will increase by 50 cents/litre from E16.75 to E17.25.
Eswatini has about 70% of the population living below the poverty line,emaSwati are facing escalating costs of basic commodities,scarcity of jobs and high inflation amid payment of low wages by some private companies and the Government.
