MBABANE:Bhekithemba Makhubu, the editor of the Nation Magazine says, in his early days as a journalist,he found the existence of the 1973 decree and the media was operating under a very hostile environment.
The 1973 decree was issued by the late King Sobhuza who assumed Executive, Judicial and Legislative powers, political parties were banned and the media was restricted from reporting without fear or favor.
Speaking to this Swaziland News on Tuesday, the senior editor who recently graduated with an LLB Degree from the University of South Africa(UNISA)said,he vigorously opposed the State media regulation because he fully understood what Government was trying to do, having worked under difficult conditions as a journalist.
“All they want to do is to sabotage the media and we will not allow that”, said the senior editor when speaking to editor Zweli Martin Dlamini.
The sentiments of the senior editor comes after Prime Minister Russell Mmiso Dlamini threatened to deal with journalists and regulate the media.
