NHLANGANO: Hundreds of emaSwati from the Shiselweni region came together to donate sanitary pads and cash to needy young girls.
The event that took place yesterday at Nhlangano was organized by Eswatini National Youth Council(ENYC) in collaboration with region beauty Queens. Speaking to this Swaziland News, Shiselweni Youth Coordinator Thembinkosi Hlatjwako said life was miserable for the girl child without the necessary hygienic measures.
"Our research suggests that it is difficult for young girls without sanitary pads to cope mostly during this time of examination hence we are fundraising for this initiative" said Hlatjwako.
Miss Shiselweni Phiwayinkhosi Msibi urged all emaSwati to contribute towards making sure that the girl child is well looked after.
"As we celebrate 16 days of activism against gender based violence against women, let us buy pads for all needy pupils in schools. When schools open we will then distribute these pads hence we ask for donations to assist our girls,\" she said.
Monetary donations were also welcomed from the public during the event, as young people contributed cash from E25 while each adults donated about E 35.
Miss teen Shiselweni Asiah Ranjha said such initiative is very key. "Donating pads to improve the health standards of our needy sisters is important as this affects." she said.
Shiselweni Youth Council Volunteer and event organizer Baphelele Masilela encouraged everyone to contribute towards this initiative.
