BULANDZENI:Chief Ndlaluhlaza Ndwandwe, the Minister of Public Works and Transport is failing to maintain the roads within the communities under his traditional jurisdiction.

As a result, residents of Bulandzeni in the Hhohho region are struggling with poor roads particularly from Magoga towards St Peregrine and Pigg’s Peak.

The road is also damaged from Magoga towards Fontotje, Ekubongweni High School and Buhleni.

This has resulted to public transports struggling to service citizens and enable the movement from and to Bulandzeni Chiefdom.

A questionnaire was sent to the Public Works Minister, however, he had not responded at the time of compiling this report.

A resident of the area who spoke to this publication said, they were surprised to learn that, the King entrusted the Chief with maintaining roads and other public infrastructure in the country while “he is failing dismally” to maintain roads within his own community.

“As you can see the road, this road is used by kombis including Singalwi Bus Service. This is the man that the appointing authority has entrusted to take care of the country’s roads yet he can’t service his own subjects with all the given resources”, said the resident.

But Brian Sangweni, the National Spokesperson of eSwatini’s main and largest political party, the People’s United Democratic Movement(PUDEMO) says, the Public Works Minister cannot be entirely blamed as he does not have powers to decide which road to rehabilitate.

Speaking to this Swaziland News on Wednesday afternoon, the PUDEMO National Spokesperson said some rural areas across the entire country are struggling with poor roads.

“You will note that, there’s a road from Ludzidzini to Lozitha, that road was constructed because the King has an interest. So it’s not only Bulandzeni many chiefdoms are struggling with poor roads and we cannot entirely blame the Public Works Minister as he does not have powers to decide which road to rehabilitate”, said the PUDEMO National Spokesperson.
