MBABANE:Gcebile Mvubu,a teacher by profession has been accused by Sabelo Tony Malala,a South African cop of disappearing with four-hundred and thirty-eight thousand Rands(R438,000.00) sourced from his pension monies.
“We were on separation and I wanted to conclude the divorce so I asked her to sign the divorce papers so I can claim 50% of my pension. I promised to give her fifty-thousand Rands(R50,000.00) ngitsi ngiyamupha just for signing and she agreed because I even suggested that the money must be paid directly into her account. We had agreed that once the money reflected, she will take her R50,000.00 and transfer the balance to me but she later disappeared with the whole R438,000.00”, said the South African cop.
But teacher Gcebile Mvubu when responding to this Swaziland News editor Zweli Martin Dlamini wondered why some South African men think women from eSwatini are fools.
“He married me at a very young age and wadlala ngami. When he approached me with this offer he wanted a quick divorce and thought I was not aware of South African laws suggesting that when you divorce, your spouse is entitled to 50% of your assets including the pension. So that whole R438,000.00 is mine because I signed for the divorce and I later received information that he wanted to use that money to marry another woman.I was previously employed by a bank and I took a loan to pay for the house he is currently occupying with his family, I did not claim all that yet I am at liberty to attach and take over even the house he is occupying because I paid for it with my loan. It’s true that I received the R438,000.00 and I then consulted two(2) lawyers who gave me the same advice that the whole amount is mine. The problem here is that, some South African men think women from eSwatini are fools, he thought I will just take what he was giving me yet the whole amount was mine. He married me while I was still young and he thought he can play me again yet I’m a grown-up woman now. Even the woman he wanted to marry after our divorce, he impregnated her while we were still married, adlala ngami”, said the teacher who is now based in Taiwan.
Reached for comments,Colani Hlatswako, the One Billion Rising Coordinator encouraged women to understand laws governing their marriages, so that they cannot be tricked.
“It’s important to understand the laws governing the nature of your marriage so that you can be protected. In this case, the woman has a right to clarify why she deserves the money in terms of South African Marriage Laws”, said the Coordinator of One Billion Rising, a women rights organization.
