MBABANE: Mthunzi Shabangu,the Labour Commissioner has been applauded for wise leadership that resulted to Crooks Plantation workers and their employer signing an agreement that ended the recent strike action.
Speaking to this Swaziland News on Friday, Sanele Sihlongonyane, the Big-Bend Branch Chairperson of the Swaziland Agricultural Plantation Workers Union(SAPWU) attributed the peaceful agreement to, among others,the wise leadership of the Labour Commissioner.
“That Labour Commissioner is a wise leader,he provided legal advice to us and the employer on what to do in terms of labour laws to agree and end the strike action,he was fair.He even advised us on our rights and the rights of the employer.We were actually comfortable to negotiate under his leadership and we eventually reached an agreement”, said the unionist.
Crooks Plantation workers are back to work after engaging in a strike action that lasted for almost a month.
The company reported losses amounting to over R2million as a result of the strike action, the employees were demanding among others, a salary increment.
