MBABANE:Dr Nessie Golakai- Gould, the United Nations Development Program(UNDP) Deputy Resident Representative says,the role of the Parliament Public Accounts Committee(UNDP) is in line with the UN Sustainable Development Goals(SDGs).
The UNDP Deputy Resident Representative was speaking when closing the Auditor General(AG) and PAC induction on Friday, the induction was sponsored by UNDP.
“The work of the PAC aligns with the SDGs, particularly Goal 16 on promoting peaceful and inclusive societies, and building effective, accountable, and inclusive institutions. While the workshop has empowered the Committee with the necessary tools to begin its work embracing transparent and inclusive processes, allowing for meaningful engagement from all parties, it is also expected to improve on standards set out by its predecessors,” said the UNDP Deputy Representative as quoted by Government online platforms.
On another note,Parliament Deputy Speaker Madala Mhlanga thanked the Office of the Auditor General(AG) for capacitating the PAC.
“We are grateful to the Auditor General for capacitating the PAC and allowing us to explore efforts to strengthen the issues of transparency and accountability in the use of public funds.The support of the UN family is also appreciated as we also got exposed to the concept of Tax for SGDs during the workshop,” said the Deputy Speaker.
