MBABANE:EBet is now back in business after being granted a provisional license by the Eswatini Gaming Control Board under the Ministry of Tourism and Environmental Affairs.
Former Magistrate Simo Simelane, the Chairperson of the Gaming Board announced a three(3) months provisional license pending the awarding of a new license.
The provisional license means eBet will now operate legally in the country while the process of awarding the the actual license continues.
The Gaming company was at loggerheads with its competitor 8bet that was opposing the awarding of the license, a political power struggle subsequently erupted with a powerful clique suspected to be behind the closure of eBet with an intention to monopolize the Gaming industry.
As a result, a series of meetings was held between representatives of eBet and the Gaming Board after some objections that were vigorously opposed by eBet legal representatives
Efforts to seek a comment from the Gaming Board Chairperson proved unsuccessful at the time of compiling this report.
On another note, a copy of the provisional license sent to this Swaziland News on Monday evening suggests that,it was signed by the Gaming Board Chairperson on the 6th May 2024.
