King Mswati pledges to strengthen cooperation with the European Union(EU),says unity among countries enhances social and economic development.

MBABANE:King Mswati has pledged to strengthen cooperation with the European Union(EU) adding that, unity among countries enhances social and economic development while promoting peace and security.

The King who was represented by Prince Sendzangakhona during the Europe Day held the Mbabane National Library on Wednesday, further applauded the significant growth of the European Union(EU) from six(6) original members to the current twenty-seven(27) member States.

“We applaud the noteworthy growth, evolving from six(6) original members to current twenty-seven(27) member States, encompassing nearly 450 million people.We look forward to witnessing further growth and unity as the EU continues its path towards common goals and objectives.We have emulated similar regional and continental cooperation that also support our economic and social development.These include our blocks such as SADC,COMESA and the African Continental Free Trade Area(AfCFTA).We do wish to see meaningful cooperation with the European Union in our initiatives so that we can create valuable collaborations between our continents in the work we do as we grow”, said the King through his representative Prince Sendzangakhona.

On another note,Her Excellency Dessislava Choumelova, the European Union(EU) Ambassador to Eswatini described the Europe Day as an opportunity to celebrate the work and achievements of the European Union,including its role as a major global actor greatly contributing to peace, stability and sustainable growth around the world over the last seventy-four(74)years.

The Ambassador further noted that, the EU that was established in the ashes of war, has grown to become a project that seeks to promote peace,unity and prosperity in Europe.

Deputy Prime Minister(DPM) Thulisile Dladla, leaders of civil society organizations,Cabinet Ministers and senior government officials were present during the Europe Day celebration.
