MBABANE:Maphevu Mkhatjwa,the Acting Commissioner of the Anti Corruption Commission(ACC) is a leader of Bemanti who plays a significant role during Incwala ritual ceremony.
An investigation into the profile of the Acting Commissioner uncovered that, he is a former police officer and comes from the Mkhatjwa clan.
The Acting Commissioner, it has been disclosed, sometimes disappear to conduct royal duties with other members of Bemanti(ritual men) who visit the rural areas terrorizing citizens in the name of culture.
With corruption rife in the country and involving the King and those around him, insiders within the ACC who leaked some documents to this journalist alleged that, Mkhatjwa always reminds ACC investigators that while in their line of duty they must avoid “kugwabula tibunu teMakhosi nebafana bawo”.
This means, according to Acting Commissioner Mkhatjwa,King Mswati and those around him are immune to investigations.
Jabu Phakathi declined to comment when reached for by this Swaziland News.
Reached for comments,Mduduzi Magawugawu Simelane,the President of the Swaziland Liberation Movement(SWALIMO) said,the Acting Anti Corruption Commissioner(ACC) cannot be expected to investigate the King and those around him due to his loyalty to the royal family.
“We must make reference that even the Auditor General(AG)does not audit head 1(statutory where there is king’s salary),Head 50(King’s Office budget and head 51(Eswatini National Treasurer-emabutfo, tigodlo budget).How can we expect ACC to do anything.This body is made to target the enemies of the elites”, said the SWALIMO President.
