MANZINI:Make Sithole,a street vendor at the Manzini market says,the recent plastic carrier bags ban imposed by Tourism and Environmental Affairs Minister Jane Mkhonta-Simelane is affecting their businesses.
Speaking to this Swaziland News on Monday, Sithole wondered how will customers secure bags to carry the fruits and vegetables including ligusha and cabbages.
“Sesitowafakelaphi lamakhasimende leligusha nemakhabishi”, said the women street vendor.
On another note, Musa Ndlangamandla, the Executive Director of Yibutse Green Action thanked the Environmental Affairs Minister for the Cabinet decision to ban plastic carrier bags which he said, was long overdue.
“It’s true that some will be affected by this decision but it will go a long way in protecting the environment”, said the Yibutse Green Action Executive Director.
The decision by the Minister to ban the plastic carrier bags is in line with a global agenda to preserve the environment and mitigate the effects of climate-change.
